Converting Christians into Hindus

On December 25th, the day when Christians convert people to their religion, this year, we will do the reverse – by converting them back to Hinduism. In two-three years, the rural hinterland of India will be free of Christians.”

Are Shuddi and Other Radical Hindu Nationalist Groups India’s Version of ISIS?

By: ICC’s India Correspondent

9/5/2014 Washington, D.C. (International Christian Concern) – As the world is shaken by news of atrocities being committed against Christians by ISIS in Iraq and Syria, overlooked Christian communities in India continue to suffer at the hands of radical Hindu nationalists seeking to transform India from a secular nation to a “Hindu nation.” Christians in Uttar Pradesh (UP), one of India’s northern states, are under increasing pressure as Sangh Parivar, an umbrella Hindu nationalist group, and its associate organizations make anti-minority hate speeches and lead attacks on pastors and churches, pushing UP’s Christian community to the brink. Eerily similar to the anti-Christian events in Iraq, Christians across India fear the proliferation of radical Hindu nationalism and the escalation in persecution that follows.

A Church Transformed into Hindu Temple

In UP, Hindu radicals belonging to a group called Shuddi are targeting Christians with violence to make “Christian free” villages. The forceful conversion of Christians and other minorities to Hinduism under the Shuddi (re-conversion) movement has become a cornerstone of the group’s activities.

As reported by the Times of India on the 28th of August, a church in UP with a cross in it that belonged to the 7th Day Adventists, was converted overnight into a Hindu temple. It was adorned with a portrait of Shiva, a Hindu god, after what some Hindu groups in Aligarh termed the “successful ghar wapasi” (reconversion) of 72 Valmikis who had become Christians in 1995.

According to that report, there was an elaborate shuddhi karan (purification) ceremony on the 26th of August, inside the church in Asroi, 18 miles from Aligarh. Children from the village took over the premises and were seen playing in the church by Wednesday afternoon. The church’s cross was allegedly removed and placed outside the gate as a portrait of Shiva installed.

Khem Chandra, Sangh pracharak and pramukh of Dharam Jagran Vivad in Aligarh, said, “This is called ghar wapasi, not conversion. They left by choice and today they have realized their mistake and want to come back. We welcome them. We can’t let our samaj (community) scatter; we have to hold it tight. I have told them that honor comes from within the community and not from outside.” Chandra added that, “In the years that followed their adoption of Christianity, he met heads of the eight Valmiki families numerous times to convince them to reconsider their decision.”

Purging Christians from India’s Villages

Dr. John Dayal, a member of the Indian government’s National Integration Council, said that, “There has been a sharp rise in hate campaigns against Christians by political organizations. This threat of purging Christians from villages extends from Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh to now Uttar Pradesh, and to the borders of the national capital of New Delhi.”

In another incident that shocked the Christian community of UP, a church in Sahakarinagar village was rampaged by a mob belonging to the Bajrangdal group, another radical Hindu nationalist group. The attack took place while members of the church were participating in a Bible study around 2:30 in the afternoon on the 16th of July. A group of twenty five Hindu radicals led by Hemanth Singh, a leader in the local Bajrangdal group, stormed into the church and started beating Rev. R. C. Paul and other Christians who had gathered for the Bible study.

Rev. R. C. Paul, who has been the church since 1991, said, “We were shaken and are very scared of the situation in the area. We are concerned of our safety, even going alone outside looks very dangerous at the moment”.

Rajeshwar Singh, the coordinator for the western UP region of a radical Hindu nationalist organization called ‘Religious Awakening’, told The Hindu newspaper that, “From August 23 to September 15, there would be rallies in all districts against conversions”. Mr. Singh said, “The real test of strength would be in December, when our organization plans to convert Muslims and Christians to Hinduism in two separate programs.”

On December 23rd, the martyrdom day of Swami Shraddhanand (the leader of the 19th century Shuddhi [re-conversion] movement) we will convert Muslims to Hinduism in at least 50 locations in west UP.” Singh continued. On December 25th, the day when Christians convert people to their religion, this year, we will do the reverse – by converting them back to Hinduism. In two-three years, the rural hinterland will be free of Christians.”

In yet another incident in UP, the Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI) reported that, on the 7th of July, a church in the village of Saraiya was attacked by members of local Hindu nationalist groups. The local BJP leader, Harendra Pratap Singh, and the leader of the local Shiv Sena, Acche Lal Tiwari, were witnessed leading this attack.

Following the attack, instead of protecting the victimized Christians and registering a complaint against their assailants, the local police took the pastor and eleven other Christians into custody.

On the 30th of August, a pastor in the village of Noida, UP was attacked by a mob of Hindu radicals. According to local Christian leader Rev. Victor Das, a mob of radicals stormed into the house of Pastor Wilson Joseph and beat him and other members of his family. The attackers alleged the pastor and his family created disturbing noise in the residential area when leading church services.

Rev. Victor Das told ICC that, “This attack took place in the wake of several attacks and hate speeches carried out by Sangh Parivar across the state in recent days and weeks. The mob wants to create terror in the minds of Christian and other minorities.

Following the attack on the pastor, local police were informed of the incident and took the pastor and other believers into custody. Fortunately, all of the Christians were released from custody later that evening.

The Right to Religious Freedom under Threat

In a press statement, Archbishop Anil J. Couto expressed concern over the attacks on Christians and churches. He said, “It is very disturbing, and we request local authorities to take adequate measures to bring to book the miscreants threatening to weaken the social fabric of this great nation.

The Sangh Parivar plan [is] to carry out shuddhikaran – attempts to re-convert Christians to Hinduism,” the Archbishop continued. “This move by fundamentalist groups is a grave assault on the fundamental rights of individuals and people and groups.”

Although, news of Christians being persecuted in Iraq by ISIS will likely continue to dominate headlines, the international community must take notice of the issues of Christian persecution globally. Like Christians facing ISIS in Iraq, millions of Christians across India are facing persecution at the hands of radical Hindu nationalist groups. Without drastic change, this difficult situation will likely only get worse, as radical Hindu nationalist groups popping up across India have been given almost complete impunity under the new Hindu nationalist government led by BJP and Narendra Modi.

Pastors praying for India

As usual Pastors of Agra gathered at Jesus Mission for Prayer on the first Wednesday of the month. Around 50 pastors attended the meeting. Some of the pastors who regularly attend have not attended this time because they were taking part in two different meetings which were conducted in other places.
The meeting started with worship. Later Psalm was read. Then in the first session they all together prayed for the salvation of the the World, India, U.P, Agra and the local areas, especially for the unreached. They collected the statistics of evangelism and prayed for each area. They remembered the countries which does not allow gospel preaching in prayer in a special way.
Then they prayed for the 100 specially designed global requests. After this session they were divided into groups and prayed for individual problems. They also prayed for each individual to have a special anointing. They also prayed for the sick.
After the break they gathered for the next session to listen to Pr. Bala Sundaram, who preached on Forgiveness and explained how a man loses all, what he is given, if he does not learn how to forgive others and prove himself the son of forgiving God. He preached from Mt 18: 21- 35, the parable of the unforgiving servant. He preached that one fails in every sphere of life, individually, before family, before the society, before friends. He fails in job, business and as an individual. Finally he fails before God and loses every heaven and earth. He may even commit suicide like Judas. He does not forgive others finally God will put him in a position where he cannot forgive himself.
The meeting closed with delicious lunch. See pictures >>

His name is Mr. Bhagwan Singh. He was sick and abandoned by the family. He left his house and started living with Sadhus. For years he was with Sadhus and wandered all the places and shines of gods and goddesses. He was transformed as Sadhu at Himachal Pradesh. He later came to Agra and started his life as priest at a temple. People started calling him Mahatma (great soul) and prostrated before him. He was considered to be god in the form of man. For years he served and God and turned partially blind. He could not make out people. At this point another Brahman by name Kummarpal Pathak who got converted at Jesus Mission church shared good news with him. He came to Jesus Mission Church. He was prayed for Pr.Bala Sundaram and was healed. He realized that Jesus is God. He stopped serving idols that could not heal him. Now he started worshiping Jesus with spirit and truth. He left his sadhu dress. He is now preparing himself to join in bible school very soon. ( You are looking at his photo as Sadhu and now his present photo graph). Even now people call him Baba and Mahatma when he walk on the road and fall prostrate before him if they recognize.

God can choose any one to be His follower, and being one with Christ then there is no one in the world who can separate the relationship  of God and His lover!

Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? (KJV)

All Agra Pastors conference Held at Jesus Mission.

On Wednesday 7th pastors in and around Agra joined the day of prayer for the nation at Jesus Mission. Pr. Scott who is a missionary at Meerut also joined the meeting. In the first session after the worship pastors prayed for the countries in South,& North America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. After that they prayed for all state of India especially for U.P and Agra. They prayed for the communist countries, Muslim countries and anti- Christian countries. After that they were divided into groups and prayed for the 100 prayer requests specially designed by Jesus Mission.
In the second session they prayed for John David who celebrates his birthday this month. Pastors anointed and prayed for two sisters who were brought from the hospital to Jesus Mission.
A sadhu who is considered as a holy person or saint, sometimes a incarnation of god got converted this month at Jesus Mission church. He was a priest at two main temples of Agra. He lost his eye sight. He tried his best but could not regain the eye sight. When pastor Bala prayed Jesus touched him and healed him. Now this Sadhu has stopped immediately worshiping idols. He quit the profession of priest. Now he is staying out side and living on his own. He powerfully gave testimony and said that he now understood that Jesus alone is god and no other God exists.
After that pastor Bala preached to the pastors and challenged them to focus on the great command (Mk 16:15-16). He said that the church does not follow the great command is not a church at all. He challenged the pastors to have a competition between the churches for the baptizing the people. He explained how baptism helps us to get out of the bonds (Acts 2: 38, 22:16) of sin, how one gets saved (Mk 16:16. 1 pet 3:21) and how one is entitled for the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38).
He explained how we are saved by Grace and Faith in Jesus. He also explained why the Bible insists that everyone take baptism. The prayer meeting started by 9. 30 a.m in the morning and ended by 4 p.m. in the evening after the special lunch.

Purchased food for the Orphanage

I praise God that He provided us food for the month through Gateway as usual. One of the interesting thing about these pics is the height of the boys who are carrying these bags was equal to the same bag they are carrying and even less when they entered the orphanage. Now they are carrying the bag them selves. I praise God for the blessings in their lives. Gateway Church played a great role in all of this. May God bless Gateway. ~ Pastor Bala

25 years sickness Healed

My name is Kamashree. I am from Firozabadi. I used to be very sick. I had a skin sickness which was equal to leprosy. I suffered from this sickness from last twenty to twenty five years. The sickness could not be cured. I went to many hospitals in Firozabad, and Agra. Later I went to all the places I could get the treatment, I did not get well. I was itching, and watering wounds all over the body, None liked to sit beside me. My husband and members of my family were troubled. I could not do any work. I sat always in a corner. I continued using medicines. My sister-in-law told me to come on I will take you to Jesus Christ, you will be held there. I started attending the Friday fasting prayers. I attended twice and the third time I prayed with all my heart. I now have no problem at all. Not even a single scar is left on my body now. I am healed and have no problem at all. I have a great relief now. All my people with me. I have no problems at all now. Now my…… husband is living with me.
Pastor : From how many years you had this sickness
Kamashree: From almost twenty to twenty five years.
Pastor : What was the sickness, you suffered from?
Kamashree : very severe skin disease, almost leprosy.
Pastor : How did you suffer
Kamashree : I had always itching in my body. The wounds swelled and used to discharge some water from them.
Pastor : Did others sit with you ?
Kamashree: I was so dirty. Who likes to sit with a dirty woman ?
Pastor: How much money did you spend on your sickness ?
Kamashree : I spend twenty or thirty thousand and maybe fifty or……..thousands of rupees were spent on this sickness. How much my husband earned and I earned all was spent upon the medicine.
Pastor : I heard that you were admitted to the hospital ?
Kamashree : yes….yes……..I was admitted sometimes for not less than six months for the treatment of this sickness. I was also admitted in Agra hospital. I went to all four corners for treatment of this sickness.
Pastor : So no one cured you?
Kamashree : No one cured me.
Pastor : So now who healed you ?
Kamashree : The Lord healed me ?
Pastor : Who is the Lord ?
Kamashree : Lord Jesus Christ.

No More tears

The name of this woman in the video is Seema. She is giving testimony about her daughter.  This sister has two daughters.  When she gave birth to her first daughter the doctor made a terrible mistake. During surgery the doctors accidentally cut the eyelid of the new born child. From that day the eye of that little girl started shedding tears. This continued for six long years.  Her daughter asked Seema often why the tears were running from her eyes when she was not weeping.  Others too asked her the same way.  Seema had no answer. She her daughter to doctors, but she did not get well. The tears continued rolling from her eye.

Last week sister Seema brought her daughter for the first time to worship service, during which the power of the Holy Spirit touched this little girl and healed her. From that day onwards no more tears or water from the eyes. Praise Jesus.
